For the sake of this lesson, we're going to focus on the bar chart tool and the pie chart tool. Here is a bar graph that I recently created. Let me walk you through how to create it yourself. Select the column graph tool from the graphing sub-menu.

You'll see that your mouse turns into cross hairs. Click and drag your mouse until you have formed a window the size of this graph. When you release your mouse, a chart will appear on screen, similar to Excel. Enter the data for your bar graph into this chart like so.
